An advocate for reducing rising skin cancer rates in Australia, Dr Kerry Summerscales CSM is dedicated to providing comprehensive skin cancer examinations and therapies (including topical skin cancer treatments to reduce unnecessary excisions) for patients in the Mackay community. She completed postgraduate certifications in skin cancer medicine after achieving her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2011.
Dr Summerscales began her extensive career as a Medical Assistant in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps before transferring to the role of Pathology Technician for 16 years, where she reached the rank of Sergeant. She completed an Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Techniques during this time and was also awarded her Bachelor of Science in Pathology in 2002. In 2005, Dr Summerscales accepted a commission in the army as a Lieutenant Scientific Officer, knowing she wanted to become a doctor. She moved to Mackay in 2018, retiring from the army after 30 years in 2020.
