Cosmelan depigmentation peel: Real patient diaries

Written by National Skin Cancer Centres | Nov 25, 2022 5:00:00 AM

Hyperpigmentation is a common concern for many of our patients. Unwanted pigmentation is often caused by inflammation, hormonal imbalances or sun exposure, and can take many forms, from patches of darkened skin to sun spots, age spots, freckles, and melasma.

A highly effective treatment for pigmentation is Cosmelan depigmentation therapy. Cosmelan is a high-strength peel treatment applied in-clinic, followed by a few months of at-home skincare.

Cosmelan is one of the only effective treatments for melasma.

Depigmentation therapy not only controls and treats melasma and unwanted pigmentation, but also evens out complexion and reveals brighter skin, restoring smoothness and leaving a radiant finish. It is an ideal treatment for any type of skin discolouration such as chloasma, pregnancy mask, and uneven skin tone and texture.

The Cosmelan peel also helps to prevent future pigmentation problems.

Cosmelan depigmentation therapy includes:

  • 4 x appointments for application and follow-ups
  • 3 x LED light therapy sessions
  • 1 x nourishing skin treatment
  • 3-month home essentials kit

Real patient diaries

These are the real experiences of two patients who tried Cosmelan depigmentation therapy at our skin clinics.

Both patients had pigmentation concerns due to sun exposure, including brown spotting and poor complexion. They both received the in-clinic peel, which involves the application of a thick paste on your skin which is left in place for up to 12 hours, drawing unwanted pigment to the skin’s surface and shedding it away. The application only takes 15 minutes in-clinic and then you can return home.

Downtime varies depending on your treatment plan (discussed with you at a consultation prior to your in-clinic treatment).

Ongoing homecare treatment continues for up to three months months. The at-home skincare products are supplied to you and included in the cost of the complete depigmentation therapy.

In the ensuing three to five days post-application, both patients' skin became red and plump. It soon began to peel and had the sensation of a sunburn.

After six or seven days, both patients' skin began to return to normal, revealing a fresh and blemish-free complexion.

Typically, results show within seven to 14 days and skin appears visibly brighter and glowing, with diminishing pigmentation. Wrinkles and fine lines may also be reduced for a more youthful appearance.

After a week, both patients' skin completely recovered, effectively removing pigmentation from the skin and restoring smoothness with a radiant finish!

The results of depigmentation therapy can be prolonged by carefully following the homecare routine.

In 99% of cases, intensity of spot colour is reduced by 95%. In one study, Cosmelan was found to be 100% effective in all the treated cases, with visible results from the first week of treatment. There was noted improvement in skin quality and a reduction of superficial wrinkles in 100% of patients and it was effective across all ethnic skin types.

Depigmentation therapy with Cosmelan delivers fast, ongoing, and pain-free results and helps to prevent further pigmentation problems in the future.
