LED Light Therapy: Supporting Healthy Skin

What is LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that delivers specific wavelengths of light to the skin. These wavelengths are selected to support the skin’s natural processes and overall appearance. LED Light Therapy is gentle, does not involve UV radiation and requires no downtime, making it suitable for a variety of patients and skin types.

How LED Light Therapy Works

The treatment system uses different wavelengths, each suited to particular skin concerns:

  • Red light: Supports skin rejuvenation, may assist with pigmentation, rosacea, and visible effects of sun exposure.
  • Yellow light: Often used for skin rejuvenation, improving circulation, and supporting the appearance of calm, balanced skin. It is also used in settings where gentle support for minor irritation or inflammation is desired.
  • Blue light: Targets acne-prone areas, helping to address congestion and inflammation.

During treatment, the selected light wavelength penetrates the skin at varying depths to complement the skin’s natural processes.

Benefits of LED Light Therapy

LED Light Therapy can be used on its own or alongside other treatments, such as cosmetic injectables or lasers, to support patient comfort and minimise temporary redness or sensitivity. Treatments are short, typically 15–30 minutes and patients can return to their normal activities immediately afterward.

LED Light Therapy may help:

  • Support the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce visible redness or irritation
  • Calm sensitive or inflamed areas
  • Complement results from other skin treatments

What to Expect During Treatment

Each session begins with a consultation where the clinician will discuss your skin concerns and select the appropriate wavelength. The treatment area is cleansed and eye protection is provided. The procedure is generally comfortable; patients may feel a gentle warming sensation. After treatment, moisturiser and sunscreen are applied to protect the skin.

A course of treatments may be recommended depending on the patient’s goals and skin type. Suitability and frequency of treatments will be discussed during consultation.

Safety and Suitability

LED Light Therapy is considered low risk when used appropriately. It does not emit UV radiation. Patients should discuss suitability with a clinician, particularly during pregnancy or if they have specific medical conditions.
