How to treat sagging under the chin

Many of us suffer from sagging skin in the chin, neck and jaw as we get older. Even with great skincare, droopy or lax skin in these areas can be a tell-tale sign of a person’s age. Luckily, a range of highly effective treatments is available to address this common skin concern, including non-invasive options too. (That’s right – you don’t need plastic surgery to re-shape your chin!)

What causes sagging skin?

As we age, our skin begins to lose collagen and elasticity – two vital components for tight, contoured skin. This leads to volume loss around previously “fatty” areas like the cheeks and jawline, and sagging around the neck and chin.

Genetics can play a part in the severity of skin laxity, as well as environmental and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, weight loss, diet, smoking, and even the frequent use of computers and phones! (Pro tip: Avoid looking down at your screen too much.)

What treatments are available for sagging skin under the chin?

Treatments are available to promote collagen renewal (which helps the body to tighten skin naturally in targeted areas), lift lax skin, and fill areas where sagging or hollowness has occurred.

Skin needling

Skin needling is one of the most accessible and affordable aesthetic treatments, aimed at stimulating the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally. A small, handheld device penetrates the skin in a vibrating manner, delivering up to 1,000 holes per second which promotes the renewal of collagen - the factor responsible for maintaining skin elasticity which we naturally lose as we age - thereby tightening and rejuvenating sagging skin.

Autologous "Liquid Gold" Facelift

Liquid Gold Facelift is a ground-breaking non-surgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation. The treatment uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth, improve your skin texture and restore lost facial volume through the growth factors that blood platelets are known to contain. A small sample of your blood is processed in a specialised system designed to extract the plasma which is then injected into the areas that require tissue remodelling and rejuvenation.

HIFU Eclip Therapy

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) uses ultrasound technology to stimulate the skin for a non-surgical facelift. The ultrasound assists in soft tissue production, restoring the skin’s vitality with no downtime. HIFU is an advanced, long-lasting treatment that penetrates deeper and lasts longer than fractional laser or radiofrequency technology. Available at our Darling Downs location.

Lipodissolve Fat-Dissolving Injections

Lipodissolve Fat-Dissolving Injections help to remove small fatty deposits in various areas of the body. Rather than acting as a weight loss tool, the procedure uses fat-dissolving injections to contour and sculpt areas of the body which typically hold small, localised pockets of fat, such as the chin. The injections are a safe, non-surgical way to eliminate fat deposits without surgery. Available at our New Town location.

Fibroblast Plasma Skin Tightening

Fibroblast Plasma Skin Tightening is a non-invasive treatment for tightening the skin without surgery. Fibroblast kick-starts the natural production of collagen, helping to promote overall skin rejuvenation, tighten the skin, shrink large pores, smooth wrinkles around the face, and give a healthier and younger appearance. Available at our Darling Downs location.

Face lift

In more severe cases, a face lift can dramatically improve the appearance of your face and neck, combating concerns such as loose, sagging tissues of the mid-face; deep folds of loose skin at the sides of the nose and mouth; jowls or loss of definition of the jaw line; excess fat or loose skin causing loss of definition; and hanging tissue in the neck. Available at our Terrigal location.

Laser treatments can improve your skin’s elasticity and promote collagen production, leaving skin firm and tight. Non-ablative laser treatments target deeper layers of the skin to reduce fine lines and enhance the skin’s overall tone and elasticity. Laser is ideal for treating sagging facial tissue and can be used in any area where there is a loss of collagen. Available at our Terrigal location.
