‘Zoom face’: The cosmetic trend of 2021

Have you struggled with so-called ‘Zoom face’? That feeling when you see yourself on a video call and wonder if this is how you really look? Even adjusting the camera angle and the room’s lighting doesn’t seem to help you un-see your apparent ‘flaws’. So, what now?

Working from home – or moving more meetings to the virtual setting – has become commonplace for many people living in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic. And that means we’re spending more time looking at ourselves on the screen… and noticing all the things we wish we could change about our appearance.

According to Yelp, there has been a sharp hike in the number of people searching for elective cosmetic procedures in 2020-21.

An increase in people seeing themselves on business video calls has led to a 20 per cent increase in interest for cosmetic procedures.

People are specifically looking to address issues like crow’s feet and dark under-eyes, with jawline filler and nose re-shaping also growing in popularity – elements that may stand out most to us when we see our own reflections.

Anecdotally, there has been an increase in requests for eye area treatments, especially therapies to reduce the appearance of dark under-eye bags. If you can relate, we suggest treatments like the Vampire Facial, Fibroblast plasma tightening, HiFu non-surgical facelift, or even topical skincare.
